The Program
The conference will present six speakers, three
representing an Arab/Palestinian perspective and three representing a
Jewish/Israeli perspective. The perspectives represented will be personal; no
one is expected to represent an "official" position of any side or group. Each
speaker will make a short initial presentation in the range of 5 to 10 minutes.
Speakers will then participate in substantial panel discussions with each other,
and time for audience questions will be allowed.
While we invite each speaker to interpret the subject
matter in his or her own personal way, expect the presentations and panel
discussions to revolve around the Irvine Dialogue's principal questions:
(1) Why the
nations of Israel and Palestine are or would be important, from both a personal
and an international perspective;
(2) What are
the competing cultural narratives promoted by each side ... and could these ever
be reconciled?
The conference will begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 7, and
end at approximately 6:00 PM. At the conclusion of the day, UCI has
invited a limited number of interested audience members to continue the dialogue
over a special dinner.
If interested in attending the dinner, which is free of
charge, please register early and be sure to mark the appropriate box on the
registration form. (Click here to register.)
